Grant Calcaterra at Petroski Physio
Before the season, Eagles tight end Grant Calcaterra came in for his preseason testing. These sessions set the foundation for everything, training, recovery strategies, and in-season management. The baseline numbers we collect now guide every adjustment we make later, keeping him healthy and performing at a high level.
Why Testing?
Without preseason testing, you’re guessing. Training and recovery only work if they fit the athlete’s needs, the demands of the sport, and the season schedule. Testing helps us spot imbalances, strength gaps, or speed limitations, and gives us benchmarks to measure progress throughout the year.
Why Isometrics?
Instead of fatiguing max lifts, we use isometric tests with force plates and dynamometers. They’re safe, repeatable, and give us quick insights into max force, rate of force development, and asymmetries, the data that actually matters before competition.
What We Focused On
For Grant, we emphasized position-specific tests like:
- Run-specific hip push
- Run-specific knee push
- Ankle stiffness
These give us a clear picture of his readiness without adding unnecessary stress to his body before kickoff.
Testing isn’t about chasing numbers, it’s about making smarter decisions. By comparing in-season results back to preseason baselines, we can adjust training or recovery early, before small issues become big problems.
Preseason testing is the compass that keeps athletes like Grant healthy, strong, and performing at their best all year long.
